  • Degree-rewarding

    This is the path which most of our career-bound helicopter students choose. Degree options are offered through Lake Superior Colleges Center for Advanced Aviation in Duluth, MN. Lake Superior Helicopters partners with Lake Superior College to provide helicopters and instructors for much of their program.

    Direct

    This path is geared more toward students who are looking to receive a rating or a series of ratings to reach a specific, desired outcome. If this is you, reach out to us and we will work with you to organize a direct training plan to help you achieve your goals. More common for individuals with prior industry experience.

Whether you are interested in pursuing flight school to become an emergency medical services, firefighting, external load operations, or tourism pilot, we can help you create a safe and successful career as a professional pilot. Our program includes unique helicopter training opportunities like external load in Robinson R-44 helicopters and turbine transitions in a Bell 206 our depth of experience will be at your disposal.

the five steps to becoming a flight student

We know that navigating a new career path can be time-consuming— but it doesn't have to be. Our team has consolidated the enrollment process into five simple steps to get you out of the paperwork and into the air, in as little as a few days.

  • Our student checklist will provide you with an overview of our program and help you determine your qualification for the program.

  • Schedule your discovery flight. Here you will get a feel for flying our helicopters with one of our certified instructors and learn all about what our program has to offer.

  • To continue into flight training, you will be required to complete your second-class medical certification through an aviation medical examiner near you.

  • Funding options for flight training costs are available for civilians and veterans.

    Unlike other flight schools, we have a variety of exclusive scholarships for students enrolled within our program and the list of available scholarships is always growing.

  • After receiving your medical certificate, you will be eligible to schedule an appointment with one of our instructors to receive your student pilot certificate. Both remote and in-person appointments are available, email admissions@heli-co.com to schedule your appointment.

    Required: An unexpired, government-issued photo identification document and your second-class medical certificate.

    Within our degree-rewarding pathway in Partnership with Lake Superior College, you will have an option to choose from a variety of courses. Click to view a list of available courses offered within our Professional Pilot Program.

    Successful entry into this program requires basic computer skills and a specific level of skill in the areas of English, reading, and math.

  • Schedule a Discovery Flight

    This is the best way to see if being a pilot is right for you. You will experience first-hand what our pilots experience every day. Discovery Flights are $279.00 plus an airport fee including one hour of ground instruction and half an hour of flight instruction in a Robinson R44 aircraft.

    Flight times are scheduled based on instructor availability. Please contact us directly to schedule your discovery flight.

Through Lake Superior College’s (LSC) Center for Advanced Aviation (CAA) students have the option to enroll in an Associates Degree or a Diploma Program, both of which will take students from zero to employable in an entry-level position in the helicopter industry with a Certified Flight Instructor and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument ratings. We’ll be in touch with more information regarding our program.
